About Me

alleyscout.jpg

Anya (Alley) Scout is a freelance artist, based in West Yorkshire, with a passion for nature and wildlife.

They typically work with coloured card as their main medium, creating layered collaged sculptures.

A love of working with card led them to creating a tarot deck (“Feram Fortunam”, wild fortune) based on a
series of collaged animal designs which they had created for a tarot themed installation.

In addition to commission work, they are currently developing a deck of playing cards (“Fera Charta”, wild card)
that celebrates four endangered animal species;
Roloway Monkeys, Amur Tigers, Polar Bears and Ring-Tailed Lemurs

After initially finding an enthusiasm for creating art with more traditional collaging techniques, Anya’s practice

has developed through experimentation with layered card, as a medium to create an intersection between fully sculptural work and two-dimensional imagery.  They have developed a layering process, that starts with deconstructing their subject into geometric blocks/slices and then selecting a limited colour pallet, to create both realistic and unconventional depictions of the natural world.
While their work predominantly focuses on wildlife and nature it is not exclusively limited to this; they have also explored, amongst others, themes such as sign language (communication) and architecture within their practice.
